The Role: 

The Senior/Principal Protection Engineer will be reporting to the Lead Protection and Secondary Engineer and will be responsible for developing designs associated with HV/UHV substations and renewables systems including system modelling, fault analysis, protection report and relays setting.

This role is responsible to undertake CT and VT calculations, develop technical specifications for protection equipment (template, and project specific) as undertaking general Electrical design, network integration and connection for Enerven’s substation and renewable programs. In additions, the role is also required to provide expertise and technical authority, mentor and develop engineers within the discipline, as well as lead the development and delivery of processes, procedures and templates to improve the efficiency and quality of engineering output.

The successful candidate will have a key working relationship with the business development team supporting complex projects to ensure optimal solutions by assisting in preparation of conceptual designs, estimates and project proposals and the ability to work closely with and provide guidance to engineers, designers and drafters.  

What you will need:

  • University degree in Engineering with Energy applicable focus
  • Registered with Engineers Australia – desirable
  • CPEng or RPEQ registration - desirable
  • Project and Design Leadership / Management experience
  • Experience carrying out designs for one or more transmission utility companies in the relevant state (eg Powerlink, TransGrid)
  • On-site project experience
  • Current drivers’ licence

Other criteria include:

The successful candidate will have knowledge of substation design and engineering principles, lighting and lightning engineering, earthing, HV cable engineering, solar design and transmission. You will also be competent with technical management skills in leading, structuring and delivering processes, procedures and templates along with estimating skills for engineering and have a vast knowledge in developing and reviewing protection and control schemes for distance, differential, and feeder over current and other common protections and major substation equipment.
