    About the role
     
    Enerven is seeking an experienced and motivated Primary Design Engineer to join our high-performing Engineering Design Team. In this pivotal role, you will play a key part in delivering complex high voltage substation, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and renewable energy infrastructure projects that are critical to Australia’s energy future.
     
    From the 480MWh Summerfield BESS to the 2.8GWh Eraring BESS and the 500kV Goulburn River Solar Farm connection, you’ll be contributing to landmark projects that are enabling the nation’s transition to a low-carbon energy system.
     
     
    Key Responsibilities
    • Development and delivery of comprehensive design packages and technical reports
    • Site Layouts & Elevations: Equipment layout plans, constraint mapping, and earth grid designs.
    • Building & Architectural General Arrangements: Switchroom and O&M building layouts, cable tray routing.
    • Trenching & Cabling: Conduit routing plans, cable schedules, fibre/fire/security separation, and block diagrams.
    • Lighting & Minor Equipment: Lux contour plots, pole specifications, and lightning protection systems.
    • Engineering Analysis & Reports: Covering short-circuit forces, fire and acoustic assessments, lightning protection studies, bus/conductor sizing, sag/tension analysis, oil containment, and clearance verification.
    • Site Mobilisation Layouts: Planning for laydown areas and temporary services for site establishment.
     
    In addition, you will:
    • Contribute across all project phases — from concept design and Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) to Issued for Construction (IFC), construction support, and commissioning.
    • Liaise effectively with clients, OEMs, and construction teams to ensure practical, standards-compliant design outcomes.
    • Support continuous improvement through the development of design tools, templates, and discipline best practices.
     
    Specific qualifications and experience required include: 
    • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), eligible for membership or already a member with Engineers Australia (CPEng desirable)
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in HV substation or BESS primary design
    • Strong knowledge of relevant Australian Standards (e.g. AS2067, AS/NZS 7000, AS1768)
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation (Revit, 3D or BIM experience is a plus)
    • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills
    • Collaborative, curious mindset with a commitment to quality design
    • Current SA driver’s license
    • Experience aligned with grade-level competencies
