The position is accountable for preparing high quality, competitive bids across high voltage infrastructure, electrical distribution, transmission networks, and telecommunications. The balance of the role is approximately 70 per cent managing the bid process, bid team and client requirements, and 30 per cent estimating. You will own the bid strategy, lead the bid team through each pursuit and provide leadership and development to the team.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and present bid strategy plans to the bid team and internal stakeholders
- Prepare and review detailed, accurate estimates of direct and indirect costs, and evaluate subcontractor submissions against scope criteria
- Develop concept designs with the design team, and prepare returnable schedules, project milestones and financial cash flows
- Manage client and supplier relationships during and after the bid phase, and identify new business opportunities
- Identify commercial and technical risks in collaboration with key stakeholders, and secure internal sign off on tender costs and schedules
- Present tender submission packs for internal review and approval, and coordinate handovers to project teams
- Maintain the bid database and reporting mechanisms, and seek feedback on tenders won and lost to lift the win rate
About you
You are an experienced bid or proposal manager with at least seven years' experience leading complex, high value tender submissions. Your background may be in energy, utilities, infrastructure, telecommunications, heavy industry or another complex tendering environment.
You bring:
- Estimating and cost modelling capability, and the commercial judgement to identify and manage risk
- Leadership and stakeholder management skills, including the credibility to influence senior people who do not report to you
- The ability to craft clear, persuasive and compliant tender submissions under deadline pressure
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the capacity to manage competing priorities
- Experience with internal bid databases and CRM systems
