Design the secondary systems behind Australia's HV and UHV substations and renewable networks

  • National projects driving Australia's shift to renewable energy
  • Real technical depth, with input from bid through to commissioning
  • Shape how the discipline works, not just what it delivers

The expertise and dedication of our people spans the entire electricity network, so careers at Enerven are defined by meaningful contributions and impactful work.

At Enerven, we’re connecting you with tomorrow.

About the role

As a Secondary Engineer at Enerven, you'll deliver secondary designs for HV and UHV substations and renewable energy projects across a national portfolio. The work spans single line diagrams, schematics, general arrangements, cable schedules and load calculations, from early concept and bid stages through to commissioning. Reporting to the Protection and Secondary Engineering Lead, you'll also review the work of other secondary engineers and provide technical guidance to less experienced members of the team. You'll work closely with designers, drafters, project teams and business development, making decisions that balance technical, commercial and contractual requirements. It's a role with real technical depth and the scope to influence how the discipline works, not just what it produces. This role is flexible to be based in either Sydney or Adelaide.

What you'll be doing

  • Developing HV and UHV substation and renewables secondary designs, including SLDs, schematics, general arrangements, cable schedules and load calculations
  • Reviewing secondary designs and providing technical guidance to engineers, designers and drafters
  • Working alongside the specialist protection team to ensure secondary designs integrate cleanly with protection, control, metering and SCADA requirements
  • Supporting business development with conceptual designs, estimates and project proposals
  • Improving engineering processes, procedures and templates to lift consistency and quality of outputs
  • Providing technical advice to internal and external stakeholders, weighing technical, commercial and contractual factors
  • Contributing to value engineering opportunities and providing site-based support during construction and commissioning

About you

You're a qualified engineer with detailed knowledge of secondary design across substations and renewable energy projects, and a good working understanding of protection schemes and power engineering fundamentals. You've worked on HV or UHV transmission projects and can produce and review secondary deliverables with confidence. You plan and prioritise your own work well, estimate engineering effort realistically, and communicate clearly with engineers, drafters and non-technical stakeholders. You're also someone who looks for better ways of doing things and are happy to share your knowledge and experience with other members of the team.

What you'll bring

  • A degree in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering that supports admission as a Corporate Member of Engineers Australia
  • Experience delivering secondary designs across renewable energy, transmission and distribution projects
  • Detailed knowledge of substation and renewables design principles, secondary schematics, and SCADA and telecommunications interfaces
  • Familiarity with protection schemes and protection fundamentals
  • Estimating skills for engineering scopes, along with strong planning and prioritising across multiple projects
  • A collaborative approach and the confidence to review others' work and support graduate engineers
