About the role
As Principal HV Engineer,you operate at three levels: strengthening the network, elevating Enerven’s capability, and developing the engineering team around you.
Network
At a network level, you design and assure high-voltage infrastructure that enables renewable generation to connect safely and reliably to Australia’s electricity grid. Your work directly supports grid stability through technically robust transmission substation and BESS solutions. You act as a trusted technical authority to utilities, transmission providers and renewable developers, ensuring engineering decisions are practical, defensible and aligned with long-term system performance.
Enerven
Within Enerven, this role is central to building our national engineering capability. You strengthen governance, standards and technical excellence across projects, ensuring we deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes. You contribute to complex, high-value projects that underpin our growth strategy and help articulate our technical value proposition and risk profile to executive stakeholders and clients.
Team
You set the benchmark. You mentor and develop senior engineers, engineers and graduates, lifting capability across the function. You drive consistency through improved templates, tools and engineering processes, while fostering a culture grounded in technical rigour, collaboration and continuous improvement.
This position sits at the intersection of strategy and execution.
You will influence projects exceeding $100M while also shaping how we approach the engineering of future renewable and transmission infrastructure. This is not a role confined to reviewing designs. You will define standards, solve technically complex challenges, and help build a scalable national engineering capability.
You will work across the full project lifecycle from feasibility and detailed design through to procurement support, construction and commissioning. Along the way, you will engage directly with senior leaders and clients, strengthening Enerven’s position as a trusted engineering partner across the renewables and transmission sector.

About you
You are a highly capable HV engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and setting the standard for those around you. You combine deep electrical engineering expertise with strong commercial awareness and are comfortable influencing senior stakeholders, mentoring engineers and making balanced decisions around risk, constructability and cost.
Essential
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineers Australia.
- 10+ years experience in progressively senior HV engineering roles across Transmission Substations, BESS, or Utility infrastructure.
- Deep technical understanding of HV primary systems including HV Plant specification and procurement support of Power Transformers, Switching devices, Power Cables, earthing devices and Harmonic Filter Plant.,
- Sound knowledge of secondary, protection and control systems.,.
- Demonstrated experience managing utility interfaces, compliance with connection requirements, and utility specific standards.
- Proven ability to perform power system studies, prepare reports, and review technical engineering analysis and models, inclusive of insulation coordination, HV cable modelling and corona assessments.
- Strong Engineering judgement, clear communication skills, and a collaborative leadership style.
Desirable
- Experience across both contractor, and consultancy environments with a strong understanding of EPC/ D&C delivery models and risks.
- Established relationships in the Australian HV Transmission and Renewables energy sector.
- Experience with transmission class, or generator class Power Transformer Specification, including FAT, and Vendor engagement.
- Familiarity with deisgn governance frameworks, including phase gate process, design freeze management, and interface control matrices.
- Experience with consultant engagement models, and managing external design authority accountability.
This role is based at our Adelaide Head Office. Relocation support is available.
